  1. This is the grafitti that greets me every time I walk out the front door of my building.

There’s a philosophical resemblance between this grafitti and an extraordinary essay in the excellent June issue of Harper’s called “On Simple Human Decency“, in which Ben Metcalf (who I’ve never heard of but who has, at least for June, taken the space normally occupied by Lewis Lapham) boldly (and I don’t use that term lightly here) explores, among many other things, the boundaries of what can be considered appropriate speech when it comes to the person of the President of the United States of America. It’s a great bit of writing, and thought-provoking too.

It’s hard to explain, really. Just go read it.

  2. Heh, I was going to say that if you’re an American, you probably already have the Secret Service’s attention as they are mandated by law to investigate all threats to the President (even perceived ones like the post title ;-))

But of course, it isn’t a threat so I’m sure you’re safe ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. dude, it looks like you live across from the airport in the vegas section of grand theft auto: san andreas.

so where in brooklyn is that? ๐Ÿ˜‰

  4. Red Hook. We also have “Shoot Cheney First” grafitti out here. We had “Osama Loves Kerry” grafitti for a while, but that was put up by people only driving through.

It’s true, though, it does look like a video game doesn’t it?

  5. I, too, thought that looked like Vegas or SoCal — I thought the trees toward the left were palms, although I see on closer inspection that they aren’t.

But the vidgame feel is for real. I keep expecting an animated Ferrari to blow past.

  6. chris, you gotta put that up on flickr. i’ve subscribed to the rss feed for the “graffiti” tag there… this would definitely be a favorite. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  7. The times just ran a feature yesterday about a digital graffiti project. It’s all open source teched out stuff. Nothing beats a solid political throw-up though.
