  1. I’m not even particularly scared that Bush himself will finish this project. I’m just scared that someone, sometime, will thanks to the foundation built over the last six years.

  2. with the advent of our online, participatory social networks and the vast holes in our privacy created by the patriot act, our government is ready to trace, track and terrorize anyone, anywhere at anytime.

imagine if this network was in place during the civil rights movement, when mlk was considered a communist.

people with no sack might feel safer, but i’m not buying it.

  3. I’ve said this before: With a little education, I think this can be changed. Witness the popularity of the “Do Not Call” program and Americans’ increased awareness of the dangers of identity theft. I think people are becoming aware of privacy problems, but it’s just not happening fast enough.

I’m afraid it may take a collosal Katrina-like breakdown of the security system (like foreign hackers stealing millions of citizens’ information from an insecure NSA database) or a major political scandal like a wiretap on a major opposition politician in order to wake up the American people. I have zero confidence that we have any protection against either of these scenarios.

Of course, they’ll always have the terror card. Nobody ever went broke underestimating the willingness of the American people, or any people for that matter, to sacrifice their liberty for even a false sense of security.

  4. If you write small enough they can’t read you.
