1. Peggy and I went upstate last weekend for our friend M.River’s birthday party. We gathered at Kate’s Lazy Meadow Motel in lovely Mt. Tremper, New York, owned and operated by Kate Pierson from the B-52’s.

   We stayed in one of her four (soon to be six) fully-functional vintage Airstream trailers. We pushed the boundaries of the real meaning of “camp”. Our trailer was the “Tiki” trailer, and it was fabulously furnished with Easter Island heads, grass skirts, and surf movie DVDs . I stitched the panorama above from about 30 pictures — you can see the full-size image on Flickr, as well as a larger panorama of the “trailer park” itself.

   The Airstream trailers themselves offered little user experience design surprises around every corner, all inspired by the challenge of making a livable domestic interior that can survive a bumpy ride on the highway. Of course, these old trailers aren’t going on any road trips any time soon, but the clever widgets and delightful details remain.
