Steven Van Zandt, guitarist for Bruce Springsteen and (far more importantly) Silvio on The Sopranos, is also a radio DJ. In an interview at the Onion AV Club, he describes his music curation philosophy:
I love the Ramones. But I largely loathe the music of Bruce Springsteen and the E Street band. So out of curiosity I looked up who might be “connected” to the Ramones via liveplasma, a fun Flash-based music information visualization site.
Connected to the Ramones I see Wire, one of my all time favorite bands. I see Gang Of Four, another group I’ve always liked. Sex Pistols, Stooges, The Clash, all fine acts and clearly directly connected to the Ramones (several of them allegedly formed at a single Ramones concert in London).
But outside of those guys, well, it’s slim pickings. Let’s just say that about half of the bands allegedly connected to the Ramones are, to me, boring and their relationship with the Ramones is inexplicable. Warren Zevon? Johnny Thunders? Others are pretty explainable, such as Richard Hell or The New York Dolls, but I still find them tiresome and boring.
So, just as I suspected, I probably should stick to Van Zandt’s excellent work on The Sopranos and skip his radio show.

Anyway, I vowed to myself to stop posting on graphpaper (and ruining it for anyone else) but I love the Ramones and when I saw them listed in my RSS Feeder (Bloglines) I couldnt help but post this drivel.
